Project Journal:  Eight Grade Camp

Thursday Jan 12 1989

Today we are presenting our plays to the class and Gene is absent today!  He plays an important part in our play about a kid being bullied around by two people named Biff (Sam) and Snake (Relish), Biff's sidekick.  Everyday they take Wally Wincer's lunch money.  One day while in the men's room Wally notices an inscription on the wall which reads "Being pushed around?  Knock on the third can"  When Wally does so Mr. X (Gene appears.  Mr. X vows to rid Wally of the problem he has for a fee of twenty five cents.  Mr. X does the deed only to later steal Wally's wallet when Wally is not looking!
Tonight I am going to Booth's hobby store to buy some balsa wood for Gene and I to do our science project.  We want to determine which design of tower constructed of balsa wood will support the most weight.  We have a hypothesis.  Instead of just he design we might have too ? uncon  Sounds like an interesting play!

About Camp Brebeuf and my dad.  Does he need any forms?  Does he ride the bus with us?  Gene is still absent.  This is the third day he is absent.  We need him for our play.
Last night I bought the balsa wood for my science project!  I bought six long pieces.  Each cost twenty-five cents.  As I was saying we might also investigate if the height of the tower affects the amount of weight the structure can hold.  I think a short tower can support more weight than a tall tower.  If we investigated two variables we would then have a level five project.  Now all I need is Gene to come to school so we can work on our project.  Tomorrow hopefully we plan to get together to start our project!  Very interesting!  Remember that if you are using 2 variables it makes the experiment much more complex!

Mon. Jan 16 1988

The first thing we did was load our car since my dad volunteered to be a supervisor.  My dad and I then stopped off for a quick snack at Tim Horton's.  The food so far is fine.  Our dorms are comfortable.  Orienteering caused my feet to freeze so I did not enjoy it very much.  The high point of today should be tobbagganing.  A very interesting and funny thing happened just now.  My dad found a mask under some blankets on a couch.  It's an old man mask which my dad thought would scare some people.  So Gene put it on and hid behind the door.  He scared everyone who came through.
We went on a five mile hike to Rockwood conservation area and saw some potholes made by glaciers.  This area was very interesting.  I bunk with Sammy.  He on the bottom and I on top.
I came here with my dad in our car which we had to bring!
I brought my Risk game to play tonight.
As soon as we got here Mr. Best took us on a tour to show us the boundries and the different buildings.
We are about to see some slides.

Tuesday Jan 17 1989

Today is my sister's birthday.  She is eleven years old.  I wish I was there.
I hate campfire program.  I hate it.  In that building it is cold, wet and full of smoke.
Today I went skiing for the first time.  I liked it a lot.  Maybe one day I will go again.  To go outside I have to finish this entry.  I can't think of anything to write.  I have a bad cough.  I wish it would stop.  I am getting homesick.  I wish I could leave soon.  I miss my mother.  My dad lost a glove.  A black leather glove.  I hope he finds it soon!  Mr. Malcolmson's brother went to a bowling tournament.  He will return at ten.  At campfire program we have to present skits.  I wish I had a sharp pencil.
Today we watched SCTV and Tour of Duty.
I don't want to get wet so I will take my time leaving here.  I am drawing a blank again.  Probert is at the window making weird faces.
Tonight I hope I get more sleep then yesterday.  I forgot a pillow so it is very uncomfortable.

Friday Jan 20 1989

So I'm back from camp it was great except for the lack of sharpened pencils.  I can hardly read what I wrote!  Today we (Gene, Relish, Sammy, and I have to present our skit to the class!  I mentioned this skit in the first entry of this journal.

My recommendations for my highschool options were all 1A1!  For my two electives I chose music and phys. ed.  I sure am excited about all this business of highschool!  Last night on jeopardy, the final jeopardy answer was "The chemical formula for the most abundant molecule in the body"  I said "H2O" and I was right!  Everyone playing got the answer right too but one women did not bet any money.  She was losing.

Tommorrow is Pizza Day, and Friday is a P.A. day.  There sure is a lot of things going on this week!
I am still working on my two electives for high school.  I want to take Music.

Thursday Jan 26 1989

Today is Pizza day.  Tommorrow is a P.A. day so I will get a haircut.  I will also sleep in.
Yesterday I went into the big closets filled with science equipment!  Our school has everything in there!  I loved it.  There were millions of test tubes, beakers, petri dishes, Bunsen burners, alcohol burners, eye droppers, graduated cylinders, funnels, test tube racks, measuring devices, some microscopes, specimen slides, and large crayfish that we used last year.  There were corks, rubber stoppers, plastic (but no glass) tubing, and

A Toronto Maple Leaf joke.  A mother, father and son are in divorce court.  The judge says "O.K. you will go with your mother little boy."  The boy says "No, she beats me."  "O.K. go with your father then.  No he beats me even more!"  Where will you go then?"  "I'll go with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  They don't beat anybody!"
