Project Journal:  Grade 7 Volume 1

Wednesday, September 9, 1987

On August first summerschool began.   I was selected to represent the school of Christ the King.  I was in group one, Mr. Tony Hansen's group.  Mr. Hansen let us call him Tony.  Group one happened to be the Problem Solving group.  We were asked problem's like:  A man commited a crime, he admitted it, there was solid proof against him but the judge said "I'll have to let you go.  The judge and the man were not related, so why did the judge let him go?  Conclusion:  The judge let him go because the man was a siamese twin!  The judge could not put the man who committed the crime in jail without putting the innocent man in!  There were a lot more other very interesting problems.  I was lucky enough to solve the previous problem.  At summer school they teachers have a very interesting way of teaching pupils new assignments.  If regular school was like summer school I really wouldn't mind coming.  Not to say I mind coming now!  And one day at summer school Mr. Nobes had a pie thrown at his face by Mr. Lamparski, the principal of summer school!  I loved it there!

On the Labour Day week-end I went up past Midland with my friend Peter Karkeys.  We swam in Georgian bay, a lot, in fact I'd say almost all the time!  Since I was the only one in my family to participate in the trip I got pretty lonely.  I missed my parents.  Especially when they told me they would stay until Monday not Sunday like the had planned earlier!  But even then I had fun.  I brought my sisters some unsual rocks since they collect rocks.  I would rather go to my cottage up in Muskoka, because one, my whole family goes, two I love the area more than I love Midland, three our cottage is better and four we are on a personal beach!  But I thanked Peter for taking me to Midland anyway.
    When we go to Muskoka we also go to Bracebridge and visit the famous Santa's village.  I have more from there than when I go to Canada's Wonderland!

Friday, Semptember 11, 1987

On Monday I am going to Niagara Falls since it is a P.A. Day.  I like going to Niagara falls especially the Canadian Side with all the museums, stores, and Maple Leaf Village!  But my favourite thing about Niagara Falls is all the history.  Especially the hundreds of people who went over the falls in barrels and the tightrope artists who walked right over!  The whirlpools our also a sight to see!  We usually go to Goat Island on the American side and eat dinner or lunch at Como's!  At goat island we go on the train and tour almost everywhere near the falls!  The one thing I had always wanted to do was to go to the seven winds cave and go down the elevator right to the falls!  Someday I hope I fulfill this fantasy.

My trip to Niagara Falls was exciting.  We went all around, we even saw Buffalo!  It was very exciting I hope.  This sounds very interesting.  I hope you get to fulfill your dreams, also!  Keep working at it!  GK.

Blocko and I are doing the history project with each other.  We chose to do the Plateau tribes of British Columbia otherwise known as the Salish tribes.  I went to the liabrary and found a few books, but it turned out I needed more.  One of the books I got was very helpful, it tells how the Plateau's survived and even wrote poems!  They wrote shape poems!  But I still have a lot to learn about the Salish tribes.
    Yesterday I joined the football team and found out that I'm related to both coaches!  I went out for wide receiver I hope I make it.  But I should because everyone else went out for quarterback and center.  I also wanted to go out for defense.

Blocko and I are doing o.k. on our project.  We are going to make bannock, a food the Indians made when they got flour from the Europeans!  I thought that would be original.  We are going to give everyone a little piece just enough for them to get the idea of what it tastes like.  We went to the liabrary to read more books about the Plains Indians.  (We switched from Plateau to Plains.)  There is more information available!  The Plains people are very interesting.  I am glad I switched, the Plateau had very little information recorded about them.  On Saturday and Sunday we will finish.  On Sunday we will make bannock.  We hope to get a good mark!
    Today I brought my yo-yo.  I can do a lot of very interesting tricks with it.  It's black, black is very hard to achieve!  I can do walk the dog, 'round the world, sleeper and some others.

Yeseterday I went to the altar boy party with Blocko.  We watched the movie Gung-Ho!  I only saw a part of it though but it was good for such a little part I saw!  I had three hot dogs and ten pieces of pizza!  I also had five cups of juice it was fun.  But something horrible happened!  I went to my grandmother's for her anniversary.  But that's not horrible what's horrible is we ate a big dinner.  I had indigestion.  OOo!  I didn't suspect we would go to my grandmother's!  If I did I would not have eaten so much at the party!

Today I hope to get a good mark on my history project about the Plains Indians.  I have brought in bannock (an Indian bread) a arrow head and scraper, illustrations and full answers.  Blocko and I have done our project together so our project has to be twice as good.  I have also brought birchbark.  I got the bark from my tree outside in front.  It's a birch tree!  We will pass out the bannock.  I hope too do good.
    Yesterday I became the newest addition to the Bus Safety Patrol and already I'm up for promotion!

Blocko and I recieved an excellent mark on our history project.  I can't wait to tell him.  We are very proud.
    I can't wait for Halloween to arrive.  Last year Blocko and I were Stan and Olly.  Otherwise known as Fat and Skinny.  We made it to the costume contest finals.  This year we hope to be another famous pair.

On Saturday Mason is coming to my house to play video-games.  We will probaly visit Arnies.  Arnies arcade is different from other arcades because there are no jerks around.  Punks don't hang around.  It's more like Chuck E. Cheese than an arcade.  It has an eating area and a zillion games.  (number may vary.)  My favourite game is...well, how can I select from all those great games?  I almost took Sammy and Blocko.  They seemed to like it.  In fact they told me they like it.

I missed the football game yesterday because I couldn't get a ride!  The bus by me only goes to westdale.  Then if I got transfers I woudln't know where to go since my parents were out, and they wouldn't be able to pick me up until late and I only had one way money.  Blocko's carpool was full and so was Charle's.  So I went home instead.  Flon didn't go either.  I wonder

Today I was allowed to take off my retainer since it has to adjusted.  It was pushing my tooth in so far it began to hurt.  I will begin wearing again tommorow.  I hate the way I talk with it.  I sound really dumb.   I look unuasal too.  I wish I didn't have to wear it!  My orthodontist is really fun!  He makes going there fun.  He makes these little figures which he lets us take home to keep.  He also has little trinkets that we can take.  My orthodontist pretended my retainer was a space ship.  His sound effects were funny.  He tells jokes took.  They're as corny as Mr. Bernacki's.  I'm glad I have Dr. Flatt, and

Tommorrow is the turkey lunch for our parents and the teachers and priests.  I like turkeys and buns and salads and pies.  I'm making a pumpkin and apple pie.  We will be making them tonight, it will (should) be fun!
    I was informed it is going to snow today!  But the time is 1:00!  So I doubt it.
    In this classroom I smell a peculiar smell.  It's coming from the window.  I wonder what it is.
    Today I read with buddy in grade 1.  He doesn't really know the alphabet though!  I think he needs some other special help!
    I like these mad minutes but I think multiplication will be easier although I had the addition high score.

On Saturday at 3:00 I went to the Moskow circus!  It was great!  Better than any other circus I've ever been to!  My favourite acts were the clown acts.  They were funnier than any other clowns I ever saw.  The actors of the Moscow circus are really hard workers they really work hard to perform their stunts and they have to!  When it was letting out I saw Mrs. Belisario.  I said hello.
    We also went to Kitchener for the Octoberfest parade.  We visited Father Don.  We invited him to come with us to the Vahalla Inn next Saturday because we are going to Octoberfest again.  The Vahalla Inn is fun to go to!  I enjoyed the parade but even more I enjoyed the snitzel on a bun.  My mother's from Austria so...

    One day I want to trace my family tree way back to it's roots!  It will be hard of course.
    Today I missed my computer time because I thought the other grade 7s were there!

Thursday, October 5

Flon and I (and Relish) have the Atari 2600.  We like trading games back and forth.  I will give him Indiana Jones as soon as Blocko (who has Atari 2600 too) will give it back.  Flon in return will lend me Asteroids!  There is a game called Seaquest that I can play for very long.  Everytime you get 10 000 you recieve a free man.  So once I had almost 10 men, up there!  My high score is very high!  On Saturday I'm going over to Flon's house to play the Atari video games.  I'll bring mine when Blocko brings mine and Flon brings Blocko's.  I have Commodore 64 games to give to Mason from Karkeys who goes to St. Joesephs.  He has the Commodore 64 too.  Mason and Karkeys trade games too although the first trade hasn't taken place yet!

At Arnie's they have a new game called Dark-A-Venture.  I love it!  The graphics are great and the plot is super!  Dark-A-Venture is cross between Indiana Jones and Temple of Doom!  The game has three joysticks so there are three characters that you can choose.
    Today I played my first hockey game today!  (floor hockey)  I won, I won.  Team G beat Team B by one point!  I can't remember the exact score!  Now I'm all sweaty and hot and in exactly one hour we have gym!  Well I like gym anyway so I really don't care!  Sorry about the gym not being available!  But we must remain flexible.  Keep up the good work with your "Buddy."  GK.

Wednesday, October 21

Today Sammy, Mason, and I started designing our "Bat Cave"!  It is really fun desingning our "Bat Cave!"  We put the battic (attic), batsment (basement) and bat bar! (bar).  It's really fun!  Sam designed a hidden place under the bed room.  Mason drew the bat room!  Almost everybody did especially Sammy.

On Monday we are going to St. Lawrence to see a play.  We had to pay three dollars but that includes transportation and admission to the play.  Today we have gym!  (hopefully.)  We haven't had gym for two weeks (2 lessons) now, and I can't wait to have gym once again!  I especially like that we're playing football in gym.

I wasn't allowed to visit my new cousin.  I haven't seen her yet and she was born in early or in the middle of October.  I can't remember.  My other cousin (I have more than two) Jimmy is fun.  I'm older than him but I like him.
    In the newspaper there was a section called Murder on Bay St.  It was about a mob who accidentally killed the wrong person.   This happened quite a time ago.  I know all about this before because my great grandparents worked for them.  My great grandfather was the choeffer and my great grandmother the maid.  Now someone wrote a whole book about this and our name (family name) Blocko's family name and someone else's I know but I can't remember who.  This book sells for $25.00 at W.H. Smith.

Friday November 13 1987

Yesterday my parents bought the book "King of the Mob!" (previous entry).   My dad bought a highliner and highlighted our name all throughout the book.  I plan to read the whole book not because of Luigi  my great grandfather (previous entry) but because it's an interesting story.  I skimmed through and found out my grandfather was the choeffer for driving the bootleg trucks.  He was convicted a few times on the charge of carrying a loaded weapon without a license.   My greatgrandfather live circa 1900-1923 and his first name was Luigi.  My grandfather remembers his apartment had bullet holes in the cieling on account of a "rowdy" poker game.  This had no connection to my great-grandfather, or the mob.  Smelson, Pipsqueak and Spaniel (gr 8?) were making me laugh so hard I almost fell down!  It was so funny what they were doing.  I just couldn't stop laughing!

Monday November 16

Mason, Sammy and I like watching Mcguyver, because he's so clever.  It was neat when Mcguyver made a lie detector out of an alarm clock, a radar out of a blender, and a bowl, and a rocket booster out of a revolver.  Mcguyver is very clever and he knows how to use what's around him efficiently.  Every so often I get to play hockey.  In other words when the scedule says I'm supposed to.  I'm on Dripping Blood and I play tommorow.  Menace, Blocko and Lawrence are on my team.  People say that these teams don't pick green or yellow out of a bag and split up the origanal teams.  I hope this is true!

Tuesday November 17

Today I played floor hockey and won.  It's true that you don't split up to!  Well first victory for the team Dripping Blood, first loss for the team Hot Rods.  When my father was a boy he was asked to work for the same person you mention, Frank.  My grandmother became quite upset and wouldn't allow him to go to work.  GK.

Wednesday November 18

Tommorow we play floor hockey against the team called the Pitbulls.  I think my team has a very good chance.  Yesterdays game was kind of rough.

Darn, I left my poster in the back of the car and it was super!  I put Luke Chapter 5 verse 12 on it too.  `You shall become fishers of men."  And in big, bright, bueatiful and bold letters Congratulations was at the top.  They were red Micheal King told us about DECONATION?  I am glad he's being ordaned a Deacon.

Monday November 23

Yesterday I finally saw my new baby cousin who was born on the day of the big stock market crash!  She has dark eyes, good-coloured skin, she's quiet and will fall alsleep on your shoulder.  I got to hold her!  She is so tiny, I just can't wait to see her again.  I almost can't say it but she's pretty cute!  Pretty soon she will have her first Christmas!  It's almost December.  Hey I forgot.  I can get her a gift.

Today I am going over to my uncle's new house to see Eva again.  They moved and I haven't seen their new house yet!  My mother tells me it's huge and I'll like it.  But I really liked their old house, oh well at least my aunt and uncle haven't changed.  I really like them they're like big kids.

My grandpa always makes sure that I get good marks because he's always saying if I don't I had better pack my bags.  But I know he's kidding!  Well I hope he's kidding!
    We have moved to an old Victorian house with fireplaces in every bedroom which there are six of them!  I've only been told about it by my parents, I didn't go to the open house!  My mother is really going to miss our pool she says but she also states we'll buy a new one.  It will be inground too.

Monday November 30

Tonight I get to see our new house.  Or maybe I should say old, new house.  It's Victorian.  I move January 4.  This house is on Herkimer and Kent.  We are 2 or 3 houses away from the corner.
    Today Mason let me come over to the computer's in the back of the class.  We played video games during lunch period.  Mason had gotten permission from Mrs. Kilgour and our teacher.  We played Azchor (?) River Raid and The Aztec Challenge.  It was fun, especially Azchor (?) which is like chess but much better.  It is so fun and it's a strategy game.

My mother got a job at Denniger's the first place she ever worked.  She speaks the language and because of her references of working there around the 1970's she got the job.

Last night I really "crammed" for our history test today!  I'm prepared!

Thursday December 3rd

Today Mrs. Kilgour is back.  Today at 11:00 we have an Advent Celebration.
    Tonight we are getting some moving boxes to pack a few special things and then the moving truck will pick up the rest.

Friday December 4

(9:00)  Today Sammy, Blocko and I are going to Kentucky-fried chicken for lunch.  (11:00).  We saw Mrs. Kilgour and Mrs. Alexander and a little girl called Natasha.
    Natasha was about six years old and started dancing and karate-chopping.  Blocko, Sammy and I started howling!

Monday December 7, 1987

Yesterday my dad, and two sisters had a lot of fun.  My mother was really tired so she didn't come with us.  We went uptown, went to Mcdonalds, the library and went to look at the Christmas displays in Gore Park!  It was fun!  This coming Sunday we are going to go cut down our Christmas tree like we do every year!  It's kind of a tradition!

Today on our way to school we saw our Uncle on his way to his Patio Furniture store.  He lives just a block away from our present dwelling.  By the way our new address is 227 like the T.V. show 227.  What a coincidence.  Your house sounds lovely!  Have you seen it yet?

Christmas is on it's way and I haven't had the time to get any presents accept for my sister.  I got her Play-doh.  That hyper-little sister of mine can pund it all day!  Smart huh?  Yes!
    Just now we won the floor hockey play-offs.  Now we play the Blackhawks for the Championship title!

We are having a Christmas Pageant this coming Thursday.  And on the 18th we are getting out for Christmas holidays!  I can't wait for that!  I always go to my grandparents house for Christmas dinner.  That's usually my favourite part of the holidays!

Monday December 14

On Christmas day I serve the 9:30 mass and on New years day I serve the 9:30 mass.  (I'm not a morning person.)
    On the week-end I won a contest held by the Comic Connection in Westdale.  I didn't even have to fill out an entry form!  I didn't have to enter because I bought a Comic Connection membership card.  This card entitles me 10% off any item in the store for a year*.  (* expiry date) and I am entered into any contests without having to fill out an entry form.  The prize is:  1 comic per month for a whole year!  The comics must be fairly new and (darn I was going to pick the 1942 Superman) published by Marvel or D.C.  That doesn't matter though because 90% of the comics ever published are published by D.C. and Marvel!
    Yesterday we cut down our Christmas tree and in the evening we decorated it!  After it was decorated and the lights were lighted the presents that were bought by each other were placed under the tree!  All that has to happen now is have "Santa" visit us and go to Christmas mass which I serve!  I think in Tommorrow's entry I will explain about "Christmas at our house"!

Today a terrible snow storm has complicated the day.  Half the people in school were late including me.  Well, when I move this won't happen anymore because I'll be much closer to school and uptown.  That's half the reason we're moving the other half of the reason is our present house is too small.  Only 3 bedrooms.  We need 4.  Our new house has 6.
    Okay.  Christmas at our house is quite an intricate and enjoyable tradition.

9   Wednesday December 16

Our janitor, Mr. Doyle is retiring.  When we come back from Christmas holidays (,which start this Friday) Mr. Doyle won't be here.  I wonder who will!  Our moving date is Jan 4 and that's the day we come back from holidays.  And that's the day the school meets it's new janitor!  Too bad.  I really liked Mr. Doyle!
    Today we have a supply teacher named Miss Jablonski.  I wonder where Mrs. Kilgour is!

8   Thursday December 17 1987

Today Mrs. Kilgour is back.
    Tonight at 7:00 we are having our Christmas Pageant.  Everyone wears a bow.  The color of the bow depends on the grade your in.  All the primaries wear one colour, all the juniors another color and the intermediates wear green.  I'm not sure what the other 2 divisions colors are.  I think one of them is red.  My favourite carol of all is "Come all ye Faithful"  I like it because it's just so majestic!

Yahhoo!  Today is the last day of school until January 4!  Today we are allowed to bring

On Christmas day I recieved from "Santa Claus" a Commodore 64 keyboard.  The disk drive should come sometime this week so for now I make programs.  Some new clothes which were much appreciated, a pinball machine, the Three Stooges V.C.R. game, and many other items.
    On New Year's (day eve) I went to city hall to count down to the new year of 1988.  While we were waiting there was a laser light show which I had guessed was just a exerpt of the main show a couple of months before!
    Today I wake up at 23 Carwyn Cres. and will go to sleep in my new house 227 Herkimer St.  I'm so excited!

Tuesday January 5 1988

Our new house is huge, immense, gigantic, gargantus etc. etc.  Our house has rooms everywhere!  It has doors everywhere!  It has space everywhere!  Hardly anything is unpacked-yet accept things in my room which I unpacked personally.  The moving men came to our old house at around 9:00.  And they finished thier job at about 5:00.  On the second floor there is a round wall which is very interesting.  In every room , hallway and space there is a radiator!  They keep the house very warm.  On the side of the house their is an eating room which was added on.  It has  Sounds fabulous!  GK.

It has a skylight in it.  It's fun to watch the snow fall on it while we're eating!  It has sliding glass doors leading to the backyard.  My room has a built in group of shelves with a sort of "table top" attached.  On this "table top" my computer fits nicely.  A draw slides out from the table where I keep my manual and disks.

I can not wait until tonight when my family goes to Niagara Falls to see the light show.  Every year we try to make it to this wonderous event.  We also like to go shopping.  I especially like Rainbow Mall and Hills.

    Today our bus passes arrived!  What a horrible picture!  Well to me anyway!

Monday January 18 1988

Yesterday was my sister's birthday.  But her party will be on the 22nd!  Now she is 10!
    Mason and I are doing great with our science project.  Almost all of our write-up is done.  We're using computer printout so it will be nice and neat.  The expierment part can be done very quickly.  All we are missing is a two-hole stopper for the test-tube because Mason already has a thermometer and I have the two test tubes, glass or plastic tubing, a 250mL flask and some colouring matter.  Our project is named "Thick and Thin".
    Saturday I visited the Comic Connection to collect my next issue.  (Part of the contest I won) I noticed my card was pretty ripped up so I got a new one.  I also bought Tarzan #1!  An origamal!  My collection is already taking up a lot of space!  I bought a special comic box.  My 1951 Mutt & Jeff comic has a speacial comic bag called a mylar.  It won't break down and have to be replaced every 3 years.  The mylar can last for 200 hundred years!  My Merry Melodies (Bugs Bunny) 1954 still needs a mylar to protect it.  I have been collecting for quite a while now and I am proud of my collection.
    Tonight Masonand I expect to finish 3/4 of the 1/2 left to do on our science project.

Tuesday January 19 1988

This coming Thursday is when Sammy and I attend our first LOGO meeting.  That's the computer course at the liabrary Sammy and I signed up for.  The meetings are every Thursday starting this Thursday at 8:00 'till ?  Sammy and I think these meetings will be, fun, interesting and beneficial.  We also suspect it to be informative.

Tonight Sammy and I start LOGO computer courses at 8:00 at Westdale Liabrary.  I wonder how long the courses run and when they end.  Their was a $20.00 fell but I suspect it will be well worth it!

Friday January 22 1988

The computer course was really fun!  And the best part is it's only 2 people per class!  So it's only Sam and I.  I suspected the classes much larger.  We work with the Apple 2E (?) (I forget what it is called exactly.)  On the first lesson we learned a lot about the turtle!  We learned how to draw with it and hit it and show it and other terms.  Because I love the commodore this will be no use to me!  But I still love it!  It's so much fun.  Next lesson we have a free time!

Monday January 25 1988

Today Sammy and I (Mason isn't here but he was in it too) are putting on the Responding to Reading play no. 3b.  The conversations between the postman and the boy.  (After the conflict.) 
    Tommorow is our science test and I expect a good mark.  I think this because when I was out with the chicken pox and I only attended 3 science lessons I got a 85% on the test.  Now I started a whole lesson attended every day and expect at least a 90%.

A little while ago in Austraila a family claimed a U.F.O. had picked up their car and threw them down.  This happened somewhere in the outback.  A black powder had been found in the car.  This (in the 80's) is the first report ever taken seriously.  Scientists were on the site right away examining the site.  Now, a week later, it is thought the woman just lost control in a meteor storm.  Here is the article: P.S. I started working on my D+D (Dungeons and Dragons) Diorma ( a miniature landscape used as a board for the role-playing game.)  a few days ago.  It has a lake a cave, an outwash plain, a plain, a plateua, a few clumps of trees, 2 rivers, a marsh, a pond, and some rocks and a rock wall.  I made it out of a huge piece of wood on which it rests on.  On the board there is all of the above and all the features are real.  Grass is real, rocks, water, and a few other features are.  The trees, are little plastic trees and cave and mountains are painted plasteicine.  I

Last gym period (yesterday) Mrs. Kilgour introduced the astronaut's drill.  Every week starting next Tuesday she picks 2 captains who have to pick 20 diffrent activites with running between each.  I can't wait to give it to the class.

This tenth of March is my birthday.  I'll be thirteen years old.  March 6th is Blocko's birthday and March 27th is Julio's birthday.  March is busy for birthdays!
    Last night the altar boys attended the Flying Fathers hockey game, (for free).  I never realized that "Fathers" was used in the priesthood terms!  I thought they meant "dad!"!
    The joysticks have arrived a couple of days ago at the Locke St. Computer Store but the plugs for the ports weren't on yet.  They told me to come back later.  I think I'll check in again today.  Every year in the summer my grandfather and his friends go fishing on a  -mystery?

On Saturday (last Saturday) (March the 5) Blocko had his birthday party even though his actual birthday was Sunday (March 6).  At the party we watched a movie called Robocop.  I didn't like it at all!  It was too gorey!  I hate gorey movies.  This one didn't even have a plot!

Mrs. Kilgour told us that a few of us grade 7's can apply to be pages in the House of Parliment!  I am going to apply.  It would be very interesting.

Tommorow is my birthday!  Sammy, Gene, Blocko, and I are celebrating it Friday night.  To Saturday!  I am giving a sleep-over that is why it is from Friday to Saturday.  I usually have sleep-overs.
    When I used to live on South Oval (58), I had a huge party!  I had almost 10 guys and they all slept-over.  We had a super time!  I was about 10.  I can't remember!

Yahhooooo!  Today is my birthday.  From my grand-parents I got a fifty dollar bill and from my grand-mother I got a 20!  And that's only 2 people!
        Yesterday we recieved our report cards.  I am very proud of mine!  I didn't get one C or D.  I didn't even get a B-!
    Last Sunday my family and I went to Chudleigh's.  It is almost a custom to go there every year around spring or fall.

During the march break I went to the United States.  It was on Thursday.  First we went to Hills (which is usually our first stop in the U.S.) where we stocked up on foreign candy and chocolate bars.  Then we went over to Honey's (instead of the usual Como's.) and ate wings and fish.  The chicken wings were rated mild but we almost burned our tongues off.  I wouldn't want to try the "suicide" style, probaly just spices or whatever they use to make their wings hot!  During the march break (actually the last Saturday after the break started so the 12, we got a dog.  It's a bovier, say (boo vee ay) with a little lob (? chess)  that's why it was free.  It is a female (black).  I bought a rod and reel.
