Project Journal: Fifth Grade Volume 1
Here it is. Volume I of my fifth grade journal. A year of robots, secret basement laboratories and not being able to wait a damn minute.
Tues. Sept. 3.
Last week I was in Ottowa. On the way we stopped at Kingston. We saw Fort Henry and 1 of 4 towers on the lakeshore. The one we saw was named Maurny tower. The we contued our drive to Ottowa. There we saw The war museam the Currency museam and the Bytown museam. We went on many tours. We could not see the Mint due to consruction. We stayed in the hotel Lord Eligin. We saw the Parliament buildings also. We stayed one week but came home a day early because of unpleasant weather. ü
Wed. Sept. 4
I am making a robot. His name is Herman. I made him from a old, broken calculater. Tomorrow I am going to my uncles. I like my uncle a lot. He lives in Stoney Creek. His name is Albert. My cat is sick, he has a cold. I hope he gets better soon! ü
Thur. Sept. 5
This weekend I am going to are cottage in Musko. At are cottage I swim in the lake. I like to snorkel best In town we have supper and look around. On the lake there is a old steamship named the S.S. Seaqiun. We always take a ride on it. Our cottage is right on the beach. I love going to the cottage. Try talking about school now, Frank.
Friday, Sept. 6
In school our class does language Arts in the morning and Math in the afternoon. My favrite subject is Religon. But I can’t wait to go to the library. Today at recess my friends and I played hide-and-go-seek. I didn’t get caught once so I was happy. We also played british. In british the player it has to say british and catch the oppent while running first one caught is it next game. But im always it so I am pretty angry. ü
Tuesday Septemember 10th
Today my freinds and I had a game. We threw little berries at each other. We played until the bell rang. It was fun. I didn’t get hit once. But Feldman got hit many times. ü
Wednesday September 11
Today we played British. My friends and I always play British. But I like playing hide-and-go-seek better so at recess we play it. Me and my friends play it differently. We now use two people it and the rest of us hide. It is better like that. ü
Thursday September 12
Today at recess we played hide-and-go-seek, again. Rory was it through the whole game. We also played british. I was it through the whole game becase I wasn’t able to catch anyone. So now I know what Rory feels like. ü
Friday September 13
Me and my friends are flying paper planes at recess. I made one and now everyone wants one! So now I have to make lots. But I have the whole weekend, so I am glad. But Pushke in grade 5 ripped up all my planes. But I had more in my bag. He ripped them also. So I was mad. ü
Tuesday September 17
Today at recess we hid on Blocko. He didn’t seem to know where we were. He couldn’t find us at all. But on Sunday my family went to Chudlies for the 5th time. We had wagan rides and picked apples. I enjoy to play in the loft the best. ü
Wednesday September 18
Today Father Ron came to vist. He asked what we were doing in Religion and where we went for vaction. Right after Seminerin Fletcher came. He reminded us of conffesion. I am very nervous. ü
Thursday September 19
My friends and I are grouping a club. The club is a detective one. We have 6 people so far. We are going to meet after school and weekends at difrent peoples houses. The club was Sammy’s idea. We are getting more people all the time. I thought is was silly at first now I am all for it. I can not wait till the first meeting. ü
Friday September 19
This morning we gave Smallo royal bumps because it is his birthday. It is also Sammy’s brother’s birthday. He got made people tried to give him birthday bumps. Now I do not want to be in Sammy’s silly club Because I will make my own. ü
Monday September 23
Yesterday I went to the public library and I got out two books. One is called: Build-it yourself Science laboratory. The other is called Ernest Rutherford, the master of the atom. And while I was there I finshed my laser project for evirmental studies. So now I can stop worring. I am making my basement a laboratory for my experiments. It will be done soon. ü
Tuesday September 24
Tonight evrey one is coming to my hosue to play. Their names are: Sammy, Mason, Blocko, Gene, and Jeter in grade 7. We are going to have lots of fun. Last night I found a turtle. Everyone wanted to keep it but I insisted on letting it go. I let it go at Pricess Point. He swam away really fast. I was sad to let him go. ü
Wendesday September 24
All my friends came over last night. First we had food then we played. After we went to the park. We had lots of fun. In the playground we talked about it. ü
Thursday September 25
Today it is raining. So we didn’t play anything. A police lady is here today but I do not know why. Maby I will find out later. ü
Monday Septermber 30
On Sunday after church I went to visit my uncle and aunt in the country. We had chicken for supper. Then I played a game with my uncle. He offered me to borrow one. Then we went home. I had lots of fun. I hope I go again soon. ü
Tuesday October 1
Today my friends and I just walked around, in the school yard. We found some snails along the way. We let them free. At recess we played hide-and-seek. It was fun. I was it three times but I didn’t mind this time! At recess this afternoon Sammy is it. I can not wait to start playing again. ü
Wednesday October 2
Before school we just talked about movies. Sammy said he like Summer Rental, while Mason didn’t talk at all. Niether did I. Today is art my favrite subeject. But I do not know what we are doing. But I’ll bet I like it. I cannot wait to start art this morning after recess. We played hide seek and Sammy is it but he doesn’t want to be it so now Smallo has to be it and I do not think that’s fair. So the next time Sammy is it. ü
Thursday October 3
Sammy and I made up a new game. On nine stones four people jump on each stone trying to jump on the same stone as someone else therefore that person is out. ü
Monday October 7
Yesterday I went to the public library. I got three books: Ventriliqiusim, Bill Cosby, and In Search of Tutantamun. I can almost say some words without moving my lips. I also got a magic book. On Sunday I was the only server except for Probert. My parents came back from vacation and bought me lots of things. ü
Tuesday October 8
Today Gene and Relish are visiting my house. We are going to rehearse a play for the next assembly. It is titled Rub-a-Dub-Dub. Gene is the baker and Relish is the buther and I am the candlestick maker. I can not wait to do the play. ü
Wednesday October 9
Today Sammy told me about the movie Teen Wolf. He invited me to see it with him but I didn’t want to. Sammy said he did not like it as much as Back to The Future. I am glad I did not see it. ü
Thursday October 10
Tommorow we do a play. Relish, Gene and me. We also have a thanksgiving celabration. Evrey time I go home I run to the upstairs porch and play with my lego. I At drama time two people came. We played the name game and the human knot. In my basement lab downstairs I mixed H20 with sulphur but [This last line was mysteriously erased but still legible. chess. ]ü
Friday October 11
Today Blocko let me hold his watch. At lunch we are going to go to Harvrey’s. I brought all the things for the play and now Mike says we do not do it today. So I have to bring it all back. I brought 10 dollars to school for lunch. I hope I do not lose it. It is in my backsack.
Tuesday October 15
On Saturday I went to the Rockton fair. It was raining so I didn’t do a lot. The only good ride I went on was the rocket. The rocket went up and down and half way around inside there was a movie screen on which was a sci-fi movie. On Sunday after church we went to Octoberfest. We missed the parade but had fun anyway. We went to a inn to see what was happening. Inside there was people dancing to a german dance. People were drinking beer. Then I got a button. We went to the Café Moseart before we went home. I hope we go again next year.
Wednesday October 16
We are going to have a surprise party for my grandpa. I cannot wait to see his face. I am not allowed to tell him though. My grandpa thinks he is coming for dinner only, but then we surprise him. The party is at my house. I hope he is surprised. I can not wait till the party.
Thursday October 16
Today is drama I think. For drama we did people sculptures. Sammy was the clay first, then I was the clay. We also did little scences. Ours was bravery. We do our play soon with Gene and Relish. I can not wait. It is now gym. I like gym a lot. I can neither wait for that.
Friday October 18
Today we have a surprise party for my Grandpa! We are having it at the aromory. I can’t wait to see him. Last night we bought shoes for my little sister. She likes them a lot. I made a little box. It has a door that leads to a false compartment. The real one is in the other side. When you open a secret panel in the wall you can put the Incomplete. There is no such word as “alot.” It is two words “a lot.”
Monday October 21
We had a suprise party for my grandma. The mayor was there also. The mayor gave my grandma a brooch. I had lots of fun. To eat, there was cake and a banqeat. I had a lot of fun. I hope we can do it again soon to somebody. Was your grandmother surprised
Tuesday October 22
Today we have a celebration for the Holy Childhood. I get a membership card and a certificate. Last night my god uncle and aunt came over for dinner it was fun. I am going to the zoo soon. I cannot wait till then!
Wedensday October 23
Everyone is rearanged in sitting. I am not very happy where I sit. The person behind me keeps talking to me. But otherwise everything is fine. Last night I helped to sell books at church. In french we are having a test. I hope I get a good mark. Now it is art. I can not wait to start. Good luck in your French test.
Thursday October 24
A grade eight is after me! I only said I was going to the library! I hope I can appeal to his better nature. Tomorrow I am going to the zoo. I can not wait. On Halloween I am having a Halloween party with my friends. I can hardly wait till then. I hope you have a good time on Hallowe’en.
Monday October 28
I went to the zoo on the weekend. I saw the panda bears there. They just sat there doing nothing. After we went to the pavilon. It was fun. At the gift shop I got a book about dinsours and a button. It was fun. I hope we go again soon. Soon I am having my party. I cannot wait till halloween. What did you expect pandas to do?
Tuesday October 29
Today there is no school! Because there is no water. I know that when I home I am going out to the bank with my Mom. then I will call Sammy. But I know I will sort of miss it! I hope it will not happen again. Have a good day!
Wednesday October 30
Today we got are book order. I have some good ones. I am going to be a lady for halloween. Today a lady is coming so we will miss art. So it is a fun filled week!

Today is Halloween, and tonight is my party. I am doing a play also. That means I will have to change my costume. For my party I have a swill (swirl. chess.) cake and pizza. I cannot wait till then. After the party we all go trick or treating. So it will be very fun at the time. Have a good safe time.
Friday November 1
Last night I had my Halloween party. We had lots of fun. After the party I went to my reletives house. They were really suprised! I also won a certifacate at the assembly yesterday. next year I am sure I will have another Halloween party! What was the certificate for?
Monday November 4
It has been raining for the last two days. I hope it will stop soon. I asked my dad to take me on a hike as soon as it stops. I hope it stops soon, so I can go soon and tonight I am going out for dinner. I cant wait.
Tuesday November 5
I have a problem. I have to pick who I do the science fair project with. Spike and Blocko want to do it with me! So I will have to pick names out of a hat. I hope all goes well. Good luck!
Wednesday November 6
I have picked Spike, for my partnar. We are doing arcology. I have arrowheads and fossils from before. I cannot wait to get started. Today is also art. I can not wiat till then either. Have a nice day! Thank you!
Thursday November 7
Today I go to Sammy’s party for supper. They are having pizza. So I can not wait till then. I am reading a great book. It is called No Monsters in the closet. I like it becaus it is exiting. Last night I watched a Charlie Brown cartoon. It was funny. I hope I see it again soon! I can’t wait till tonight! You seem to have a hard time waiting for something Frank.
Friday November 8
There is a dog at school. I am not scared but people climbed fences to get away from it! It was really funny. Last night I went to another party. It was Sammy’s party. It was fun. I won a digatol watch, I am wearing it now. At recess we played hide and seek. I am also going to our football game tomorrow. I hope our team wins! I hope our team wins too Frank.
Monday November 11
Our team did win. I am sorry they did. Now the team brags all the time. Well I can take it for a day. Christmas is coming up soon. I can’t wait. I am getting one present from my parents, though it costs 300 dollars. It is a robot. I can’t wait! You would brag too if you were on the team.
Tuesday November 12
On Thursday Spike is coming over to work on our science fair project. First we will make the frame work for a screen. Then we borrowow some arcoligicil tools from my grandpa. My dad has some arrowheads and a stone scraper that are real, for our display. On our backboard I will have charts, pictures and the applied notes. I hope I win this year again! Good luck on your Science Project. It sounds great.
Wednesday November 13
The days are getting shorter and colder. now we are wearing warmer clothes and preparing for winter. I hope I have a nice warm winter. My dad is making a recroom and it is about done. So I will play down there now. On the weekend my mom is taking me downtown for shopping. It will be fun! Have a good time!
Thursday November 13
Today was drama. Evrey group put on their machine plays. I liked Jezebel’s the best. It was a monkey machine. There was three homework machines! Today is raining really hard. Well I will try to make the best of things. Have a nice day. Well try! All of the “machines” were good.
Friday November 14
Last night I went to a restaurent named the: Cavern. We went just on time! Because it was the friendly waiters birthday! My family were the only one’s there including the waiter’s family. We all had a good meal and afterward I had some birthday cake because he offered. I never had so much fun in my entire life! Bon weekend! Good for you!
Monday November 18
Today is gym. I brought my gym clothes as usaul. I haven’t missed one gym period this term! But that isn’t really anything anyway. I think I found my christmas presents. But I will not check again. I found the answer to Father Ron’s question the answer is: Felix and Duisilla. The second part to the question is they both died. I hope the answer is right. I found it in Acts like Father Ron said. I have won things from him before. Once I won I little cross also several pictures. I hope I win! Spacing!
Thursday November 20
Today I got up 15 minutes late! But I got to school on time! I am running out of ideas for my journal but I manage to get 8 lines from notes like this. Every one is working furiously on their jounals now. And soon I am seeing the Santa Claus movie. I can’t wait! Good for you!
Friday November 22
Yesterday there was a shooting on Florence St. My Dad left the house about 5:35 to pick up Spike Victorious. On the way to the garage we heard six small shots! I thought it was a cap gun or firecrackers, and my dad thought it was a gun! He was right! On the way back we saw about 6 police cars! I know someone died. I hope he goes to Heaven. Pray for him and for his killer Frank.
Monday November 25
Last night I went to my Aunt’s Birthday Party! I made a card and made some shortbread to bring. After waiting a while we ate. Then we had a Birthday cake. It was good. I had a lot of fun at my Aunt’s party! Have a nice day! Thank you Frank.
Tuesday November 26
I have a bad pain in my left side. I had it all weekend and all yesterday and of course today. My mother said she will make a appointment to our family Doctor. I hope I get well soon because it hurts. I hope you get an appointment soon.
Thursday Novmber 28
Yesterday was a p.a. day so I went to the store and I got a robot. I got the robot because my mom believed I got a good report card. But I did not get one D. I like my robot a lot. I might ask to show it to the class! I have it in my backsack. It is snowing hard. My favorite weather. Did you think your report was good.
Friday November 29
Today we have the assembly. My sister is doing a little song with actions. My sister is in grade two. I went tobaging last night, it was fun. we also had a big snowball fight! I hope it snows just as hard tomorrow. It sounds as if you like the snow.
Monday December 2
Today we are having a blizzard. But I have a snow suit so I don’t even feel the slightest bit cold. Blocko called to ask if I was going to come to school! I of course said “Yes”! Blocko never comes if he doesn’t have to! I had to help Sammy help keep the kindergartens qiuet. It was fun. I’m surprised at Blocko.
Tuesday December 3
Today are class only is going to start a penny sale! All the proceedings will go to the missions. First we buy our tickets then put them in the cups. I hope it will be a succsess! Have a nice day. It will be a success.
Thursday December 5
Today outside we played Hide-and-go-seek. Smallo was it half of the game because people kept “saving the bunch”. So I made a new rule, you cannot save the bunch. then it was a fair game. but I go to be it first because of my rule! And tonight I am going to a hockey with my grandpa at Copps Colesium. I can’t wait! I’m glad you changed to a fairer game.
Friday December 6
Last night I went to a hockey game at Copps Colesium! My Grandpa took me. It was againt Russia. Two panes of glass were brocken. We had hot dogs to eat. It was fun. The Russians won 5-2. I hope I go agian soon. Please check how you write the letter “L” – you make it backwards.
Monday December 9
On Saturday I missed Gene’s birthday party. But I don’t mind! Because I had a party on Sunday! It was my Grandma’s office party. She works the school board. We sang songs and set up the manger scene. Then we all got gifts from Santa! It was fun. Santa came early didn’t he.
Tuesday December 10
Today it is raining. So we had recess inside. I bought one hundred more tickets today! I now have eleven penny sale stubs and three luck draw stubs. The money we have from the raffle equals fifty dollars! I was right about it being a succsess. I’m glad that the Penny Sale is a success.
Wednesday December 11
At mass today I met a lady named Marie. She said she was French. I told her my name too. She learned English all by her self. She was very polite. I hope I meet her at the next mass we have! You were at Mass.
Thursday December 12
Today I forgot my gym clothes. So I have to right a page of the dictionary! But I assure you it is completely fair! But maybe I am lucky! We might be practicing a poem instead of gym! Well I hope so! You have to write a page of the dictionary. Sorry –
Friday December 13
Tonight I am going to Niagra Falls. I am seeing the Festvial of Lights. there. First we are having dinner then wait till dark. It will be very buetiful. Stony is letting my hold his Transformer I like. I can’t wait untill tonight. You are going to Niagara Falls.
Monday December 16
Saturday night I went to the Niagra Falls Light Festival. It was fun. First we went to my favorite place, the Rainbow Mall. They always have something interesting there. This time they had a shop for Christmas Shopping just for kids. I hope I go again next year. So do I.
Tuesday December 17
Yesterday Sammy, Mason, and I went tobboging. We had a lot of fun! Even though I smashed into trees a couple of times! My sled is old but fast. I like it a lot. We are going again soon. You went tobogganing.
Wednesday December 18
Today was the last Advent Mass. And I foronatly served this Mass. In our church Spike Victorious is going to be another Altar Server. I am happy for him. Today he said he already was a server for a joke! I said he was in training! He starts in Janarary. I can’t wait! Good for Spike!
Tuesday December 19
Christmas day is very soon. I am getting very exited because I think I am getting a $500 dollar robot, Named Omni-bot. But that is the only present I am getting! But that is understandable. I can’t wait ‘till then. I hope we get our book orders soon. Because I got some great books! They are the Curios Goerge packs! We are having Christmas dinner at my house this year. So we will have lots of guests! I can’t wait! It is true I have a hard time waiting. It is Curious George.
Friday December 20
Sister now had about 10 gifts! And at home I have none! That is due to the fact my mother has no boxes to wrap my presents ins! I hope she gets some boxes soon! But I sure hope I get no clothes! Because they aren’t fun! But every year I get a letter from Santa Claus! I like them a lot! He tells what I like to hear. Today I have to go to a meeting. I have Incomplete.
Monday January 6
On Christmas day I was very exited because I knew I had a lot of presents! I got everything I wanted too! On Christmas day Mass I served! I tried very hard to get it right. But it payed off. I hope 1986 is an enjoyable year! So do I.
