THE HAMILTON HAMMERHEADS

-HISTORY-

The roughest, toughest hockey club ever assembled.  Founded in the Steel City in 1944 by returning war amputees, the Hammerheads originally played in an abandoned barn in front of disadvantaged youth.  The Hammerheads turned in their rifles for regulation hockey sticks when they entered the League of Champions in the 1954 expansion along with the now defunct Timmins Trailertrash.

The Hammerheads were an immediate hit with the League's fans due to the bruising style of H2.  In a game against the Ottawa Red Barons, the entire team was ejected from the game for fighting.  With 15:20 left to play the Double H still managed to split the point with a 0-0 draw.

-CHAMPIONSHIPS-

The team's proudest moment was its first Stanley Cup victory in 1958.  Championships followed in 1963, '66, '68, '72, '75, 79, '80-'85, '92, '93, '98 and ushered in the new millennium with a swallow from Lord Stanley's Mug in 2001.  A low point was reached in 2002 with the signing of the first European player to the Hamilton squad.  Luckily, a second dressing room was available for the rookie shark.

-ALUMNI-

The list of Hammer alumni is impressive including the likes of Frank "3 Knees" Kachuk--the league's all-time PIM leader--Joe "Redrum" McGee, "Fat" Tony Caulfield, Dino "The Badger" Castrato and veteran d-man "Li'l" Jimmy Hitler.  (No relation.)
