the Cucumber club

If you, like me, grew up Canadian in the 70s and 80s you'll probably remember the Children's Underground Club of United Moose and Beaver for Enthusiastic Reporters.  This show featured Moose and Beaver and a bunch of kids.  The kids would do reports on things like history or what happens in a factory or some animal.  It was a pretty good show.  To get into the club you had to submit something.  A report or some art.  I submitted a "design."  I wrote that right on the page.  I scribbled a line that overlapped itself several times and then filled in the loops with different colored pencils.  A few weeks later I got my membership and was pretty damned excited about it.  If any reader can help me though with something that's been plaguing me for awhile now:  Was Beaver a boy or a girl?  Beaver had a girl's voice but dressed like a man.  What's the deal?

Heya Chess!

Beaver was definitely a girl!  Moose referred to Beaver as "she/her" whenever he was talking to the audience about her.  And she was played by Luba Goy, the woman in Royal Canadian Air Farce! :)

I couldn't remember Moose referring to Beaver as a girl.  I did know that Luba Goy played Beaver however.  But this pretty much settles it then.  Beaver was a girl.  Thanks Black_Pen!
