8...h5. Black still hasn't developed a piece and I felt
pretty confident here. My center is pretty restrictive.
His options for development are slim. |

f4. I thought long and hard about whether or not I could
play this now. This is the turning point. I believe
my development to be superior to the point where I'm looking for
a quick knockout. Black's King is still in the center.
Yes, I saw ef, R or B takes f and then g5, but I (still) believe
I can justify a sac here. |

12.
Rf2. Prepares to double on the open file and avoids the g5
fork. 12...Bg7. Is it possible? I've lost the
initiave and Black has somehow managed to develop despite his
K-side pawns. Of course, I couldn't see this then. |

and pressed for a mate. |

g4. The losing move. My attack is no longer
justified and my King is more uncomfortable than Black's. |

b4. Simply awful I figured Black would try castling long
here so I abandon the K-side for a Q-side attack. First
off, Black hasn't castled yet and this just tips him off that I
know what he's thinking. Second, I can't spare the time
because my King is in trouble. Third, my position on the
Q-side doesn't justify an attack there. All my pieces are
on the K-side. |
